Having Tests Run Automatically

You can also configured your WorkflowFirst application to run the tests every day at a certain time. Then you can have the test result report detailing whether the test was a success or failure generated and sent to your inbox each morning. This provides a great way to get assurance that new defects are not being introduced into the system, and if they are they can be fixed far more easily than if they were introduced a week or more before.

To set up a test to run automatically, find the test you wish to run automatically in the 'Test Groups' tab. Then click Edit.

Now change the 'Run Automatically' to 'Yes', and enter the time of day you wish the test to run in the 'Time of Day' field. Then click Update.

This tells WorkflowFirst to make sure that test runs once a day, after the specified time, in this example 8am.

Keep in mind that you should not have tests run at the same time. Because each test reinstates the database to a specific set of records, and the behavior of the application that is being verified relies upon not having tests interfere with one another, running more than one test concurrently is not possible.

You can also have the application send you the test result in an email. To do this go to the 'Report Subscriptions' drilldown from the test, and click Create New.

Here you should select 'Test Run Details' as the report type, and select the frequency you wish to see the test result, along with the time of day. Make sure the time of day is a reasonable duration later than when the test was automatically run.
