Record Detail

Clicking on any item in the record list will display a record detail screen. An example of a record detail screen is shown below.

There are several sections in the record detail view that deserve some explanation.

The very top of the section is a list of tabs that let you switch between different screens or views of the record. Sometimes, a record may have a 'Help' icon (a ? inside a circle) at the top.

Underneath the screen tabs there is the title of the record. For every record, or rather every type, you can designate a field to be the title field. The title of the record is a short bit of text that best describes the record. For example, the title field for a User record would probably be the user name. The title field for a payment record might be the date it was entered. The title of the record is also used to identify the record in dropdown lists.

The next line down shows any optional action buttons that can act on the current record. These are known as primary actions. Actions will be discussed in more detail in a later section.

Underneath record title, on the far left, are four important buttons:

 • Edit : The pencil icon. Goes to the Edit mode for this record, allowing you to change the values that you see in this view.

 • Delete : An X icon. After confirmation, deletes the record.

 • Actions... : An encircled v icon. This is a dropdown list displaying actions available on this record.

 • Drilldown... : A Hamburger icon. These 'Drilldown' links allow the user to go to either more detail or further-related records and record lists.

You will use these options to modify records anywhere in the system.

Note : These options may not be displayed if the logged-in user does not have permission to perform those actions.

In the main part of the screen are the fields names and values, underneath. These are separated into groups, and each group section has a title that is highlighted when the cursor is pointing it.

To learn more about a particular field, the user can hover their mouse cursor over a field title and a more detailed description, known as a Tool-Tip, will appear. Moving the cursor away will dismiss this window. Not every field will have a Tool-Tip. An example Tool-Tip is shown below.

Some field values will appear underlined. These are often links to other parts of the database. In WorkflowFirst these are known as foreign links. You will learn more about foreign links later in this user guide. The value may also be a link to a file that is stored in the system, or it may be a URL link.

Some field values may have custom views. That means that the value isn't displayed as plain text, but might have a picture or some other kind of rendition. These can appear in any way as determined by the custom view configuration. The color selector in the Application record is an example of a custom field.

Tip : Because this is a web page, any fields can easily be copied to the clipboard so they can be pasted into documents or spreadsheets.
